Room & Board, Etcetera - This page visible for historic purposes only

Mythcon 48 will be held at the St. John’s Catholic Newman Center at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois, and our primary room and board options are dorm rooms and suites, all in the same building with programming and meals. We have air-conditioning, free wi-fi, and elevators for getting up to the bedrooms; there are a limited number of parking spaces available at $30 for the weekend.

The University of Illinois' website tells you how to get to campus or, from Champaign County's website: getting to Champaign - you can drive, fly (American Airlines currently serves the Champaign-Urbana airport; after June 8, 2017, United Airlines will, too), take a train (Champaign is on the Chicago-Carbondale track), take a bus (Greyhound), or a combination of those options (shuttle from O'Hare or Midway Airports in Chicago). There are also other interesting things to do in the area, some of which you can read about here.

Room & Board at the Newman Center includes meals, starting with Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Sunday breakfast, lunch, and banquet, and concludes with breakfast on Monday.

For the room portion, PLEASE CHOOSE:
Single bedroom sharing a bathroom with ONE other single bedroom (a "jack and jill" layout with the bathroom in between the bedrooms)

Single bedroom sharing suite style with up to four single-bedrooms sharing a bathroom AND living room area

Double bedroom sharing suite style (two single beds in one room), sharing a bathroom AND living room area with another double (4 person suite).

There are a very limited number of ADA-compliant singles with their own private bathroom, suitable for folks in wheelchairs - please contact registrar Marion Van Loo (email: subscriptions@mythsoc.org) to request one.

For those who want hotel amenities (and larger beds), we have arranged for a small block of rooms at the Illini Union Hotel. The hotel offers free parking and free wi-fi; breakfast is a $5 voucher which can be used at several local eateries (please see the website). The downside: the hotel is a scant half mile from the Newman Center and apparently it's not really practical to drive between the two (lack of available parking at the Newman Center); there are buses but they're not much faster than the 8-10 minute walk. We encourage locals and the folks who choose to stay in the hotel to buy the Mythcon 48 meals package - it includes Friday dinner, Saturday lunch & dinner, Sunday lunch & banquet; the experience of sharing meals is part of the fun of Mythcon!

No breakfasts - for those staying at the Illini Union Hotel, for local attendees, and those staying elsewhere; folks who buy a room and board package, above, already have their meals included.



*About roommates / suite-mates: We place people in double rooms (two beds in one bedroom) according to your roommate requests; we will try to put people into suite groupings according to your requests but we cannot guarantee it. If you book a double room without specifying your roommate, we will try to assign you a suitable roommate (and suite-mates) BUT we cannot guarantee it; it is possible that someone requesting a roommate be assigned will have to 'upgrade' to a single; happily the price difference isn't very big this year.

About "jack & jill" single rooms: we will assign rooms so that shared bathrooms are with the same sex unless you specify the person with whom you will be sharing the bathroom.
