The Mythopoeic Society was founded in 1967 in Los Angeles by Glen GoodKnight. At first an informal gathering, it was later incorporated in the State of California as a non-profit organization in 1971. As such, we have an executive board known as the Council of Stewards, and a set of Bylaws.

We are a non-profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, incorporated in the state of California.
